Your Experience
Are you licensed? Do you have specialty certifications for volume lashes?
The more experience you have the more you can charge.
Your Target Audience
Knowing your target audience can help you determine how much you should charge. What are they willing to pay? Use this worksheet here to help you identify your target audience.
Your Location
Will you be lashing out of your house or a salon suite? Your target audience may not be willing to pay top dollar to come to your house.
Also, consider where you’re located. Lashes in New York may be higher than lashes in Florida. Furthermore, lashes in Miami may cost more than lashes in Orlando.
Are you in a small area where there aren’t many lash services? If so, you may be able to capitalize off this by charging more for services depending on demand.
Research the market and see what your competitors are charging.
Your Expenses
For this section you’ll need to know your:
- Fixed Expenses (stay the same per month) – Rent, Phone, Utilities, Website Hosting, Internet, Your Take Home Salary
- Variable Expenses (vary per month) – Lash Supplies, Marketing
Now, add up your Total Monthly Expenses
It’s ok to forecast.
Next determine:
- Average days a month you’ll work (days a week x 4 weeks)
- Average # of Clients a Day
Now, let’s do the math to determine your breakeven point.
A breakeven point where your income covers expenses.
Step 1. Determine the average $ you need to make a day
Formula: Expenses / Avg days per month = ___
Example: $5000/ 20 days = $250
Step 2: Determine your Average breakeven price per client
Formula: Avg money you need to make a day / Average # of Clients per day = ___
Example: $250 / 3 clients = $83.33 average breakeven price per client
This means you need to make more than $83.33 per client per day, to make a profit
If you do (1) Classic Set at $120 and (2) refills at $70 plus a lash aftercare set at $20 = $300 per day
Check to make sure you’re making at least minimum wage. For instance, $300 per day/8 hours = $37.5 per hour (not including tips)
To make a profit, you can:
- Upsell services
- Retail products
- Raise prices
- Take more clients
- Work more days
At the end of the day, don’t look at what others are charging as a basis for determining your value and worth.
